Packaging Box Design

The main purpose of this project is to conceive 4 packaging design concepts for an E-Commerce company. The concepts will went through from sketching phase towards the 1:1 Dummy model phase.

In a brief background, Tandamata is an E-Commerce online company with the unique proposition of represent their unique aspect and leaves an impression and memorable experience for the customer. One of the main aspects of company representation is the packaging of the product. With that into consideration, a redesign of a product packaging is essential as a unique packaging design has a high tendency of represent the companies’ character and leaves an impression of the latter towards customers.

Sketches of numerous ideas were made to further visualise the new idea of a unique packaging design. 4 will be selected for further development based on the rate of simplicity and uniqueness. The idea must be highly unique, though it must also be simple enough for vendors and customers to learn the procedures of the packaging design, this includes to produce and open the package. The selected 4 concepts as follows;

The 1st concept is the addition of a box cover as well as the split-opening mechanism on the box itself. The outer cover is there in order to cover the transparent section, which is also a feature on this concept, and also to have further opportunities to have a graphical visual design elements to the package. This potentially includes the branding visual elements in addition to seasonal related graphics.

2nd concept is essentially a typical paper post/letter which has been adapted towards a box, which happens to be the base of the new design. The triangular cover is largely based on the post/letter design as well as the opening mechanism. In addition, the transparent part under the triangular cover is added to have a first glimpse for the customer to have a look on the product (this is also the case for the 1st concept as well). This level of uniqueness will brought a high level of brand representation towards customers.

The 3rd concept is all about full accessibility and security in one design. As a whole, this concept features an opening mechanism thats exposes every single part of the package, this would improve high visibility and accessibility for the customer towards their product. As for security, the package itself is double-layered in order to have an improve rigidity and durability.

The main feature on the 4th and final concept is the integrated handle on the top of the box in addition to the double layer on the top part. The handle, which is also part of the box cover, is held by a further 2-layer cover which holds the handle into place and also increase security to the product inside the box.

The 4 concepts will then be created into a 3D model in a 1:2 scale in order to visualise the opening mechanisms into practice. All 4 have handled well, hence all will be created into a 1:1 full size model, which as of writing, is on the process of building by the companies’ vendors.
